Located on the
southeast coast of China, Wenzhou is the center of economy, culture and transportation
in south Zhejiang Pro-
vince. It has jurisdiction over three districts (Lucheng, Longwan and Ouhai), two
county-level cities (Rui’an and Yueqing) and six counties (Yongjia, Pingyang, Cangnan,
Dongtou, Wencheng and Taishun) with a total population of 7.3912 million, including
1.31million urban residents. It covers a land area of 11,784 sq. km. and a sea area
of some 11,000 sq. km. The terrain of entire Wenzhou slopes from southwest to northeast
with the Donggong, Kuocang and Yandang Mountains stretching in an unbroken chain.
The main rivers are the Oujiang, the Feiyun and the Aojiang, crisscrossing the eastern
plain. The zigzag coastline, dotted with 436 islands, forms excellent natural ports
such as Panshi and Yueqing Bays.
